In the previous Rajasthan State Assembly polls, Congress won 100 out of 200 seats and formed the government with the help of the Bahujan Samaj Party, as it was one seat short of a majority. The BJP won only 73 seats.
Spelling out the success mantra for the party in the upcoming state assembly polls, Rajasthan state chief Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said he believes Congress will return to power in the state if it contests the polls unitedly.
He made the remarks while addressing media persons. However, the state chief evaded questions about dissident Congress politician Sachin Pilot, and stated that everyone in the party accepts the high command's decision.
Notably, Pilot, in a meeting on 15 May, warned of launching state-wide agitation if his demands were not met by the month-end.
Pilot wants a high-level inquiry into alleged scams during the tenure of Ashok Gehlot's predecessor Vasundhara Raje, a former BJP state chief.

When asked about the ultimatums given by the politicians of his own party, Gehlot said: “Ye toh media wale jyada faila dete hai (The media plays up these issues). We do not believe in these (things). We believe that the entire Congress should fight the elections unitedly, we will come back victorious”.

Notably, the State Assembly elections in Rajasthan are scheduled to be held later this year as the tenure of the Gehlot-led government ends on 14 January 2024.
With the elections in mind, the party is expected to hold a meeting in Delhi in the coming days.

Congress Pins Hopes on Karnataka Success

Talking about the meeting, the Congress politician said that there will be discussions and everyone will offer suggestions, whereas instructions will be issued by the high command.

“Once the high command, the Congress president takes a decision, everyone accepts the decision. Then we get back to work”, Gehlot stated, adding that he hopes Karnataka’s experience might be useful and that there will be discussions on that too.

Meanwhile, he also took an indirect dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the results of the Karnataka State Assembly polls. The Rajasthan state chief said the people of Karnataka have taught a lesson to the BJP, and that governments are not formed by donations and spending money.

“The path shown by Karnataka will be shown by the people in every state of the country”, he stated.
