Measuring 8,849 metres high, the world's tallest mountain – Mt. Everest – has been a hot destination, drawings hundreds of mountaineers from across the globe for serious mountain climbing.
As people worldwide celebrate International Everest Day on Monday, a viral video circulating online shows the harsh reality of the devastation left behind by climbers on the mountain.
Footage from Camp IV on Mt. Everest has revealed numerous discarded tents and heaps of trash littering the slopes of Mt. Everest.
In a video shared by Everest Today on Twitter, a massive accumulation of garbage at Camp IV on Mt. Everest can be seen.
The sad state of Mt. Everest has sparked outrage on Twitter as netizens slam hikers and mountaineers for causing harm to the environment.
With over 603,500 views and 1,400 retweets, the video has gone viral on social media.

"This makes my blood boil! How can you love nature enough to want to climb mountains but care so little for it that you’re willing to leave your waste behind?!" one netizen questioned.

"Never gets any less shocking to see the mess up there. Whatever those huge prices being paid by ‘clients’ are funding, it’s not keeping the mountain clean", another commented.

"What a fecking nerve people have. Humans even manage to deface something they climb up to admire the surrounding, breath taking beauty of Then leave a sh*t heap in their wake. Disgusting! Given the current climate crisis they should all spend a stint inside for this..." another commented angrily.

Netizens have called for strict regulations, enforcement of clean climbing practices, and effective waste management strategies.
