On 29 May, 1953, New Zealand’s Ed Hillary and Darjeeling’s Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers to conquer the world’s highest mountain.
To the Nepalese, Mount Everest was known as Sagarmatha and to the Tibetans it was known as Chomolungma. The mountain people often referred to it as “Mother of the Universe.”
The ascent to Mount Everest can be extremely demanding for human body due to changing oxygen levels and pressure on the way to the top and back.
The success of was Hillary and Norgaym was the result of years of planning, training, and determination, which reminds us that we can achieve great things with dedication and courage.
