The Delhi Police on Monday stated that if the wrestlers applied for permission, they would be given notice of any suitable place to stage a sit-in protest other than Jantar Mantar.
The ace grapplers protesting at Jantar Mantar against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Tuesday left for Haridwar in the state of Uttarakhand as they announced that they will “immerse” their medals in the Ganga River, the holy river held in high esteem by millions of Hindus.
According to media reports, they will immerse the medals at 6 p.m. (IST).
Top wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshee Malikkh shared a three-page letter on Twitter stating that even though “their lives would have no meaning” after losing the medals "so we will sit on a fast-unto-death at India Gate in the national capital".
Opening the letter by castigating the Delhi Police for cracking down on their protest march, the wrestlers said that the authorities were treating them like "criminals", while the sexual harasser openly attacks them in public meetings.
They further claimed that even changes to the law to protect minors (POCSO Act) were being openly discussed.

“We, women wrestlers, feel that there's nothing left for us in this country. We recall the moments when we won at the Olympics and World Championships,” they said in the letter.

Notably, Delhi Police on Sunday detained the wrestlers who sought to march towards the new Parliament building to organise a “Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat” (Women’s meet) on the spot.
The grapplers also lamented that their “oppressor” (Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh) was invited to the inauguration of the new Parliament, while President Droupadi Murmu, “who is a woman herself, was sitting barely two kilometres from the protest site and watched everything silently.”
The athletes said that they finally decided to immerse the medals in the River Ganges, as it is “our mother.”
“As holy as we consider the Ganga, we have worked hard with the same purity to win these medals. These medals are holy for the entire nation, and the River Ganges is the most appropriate place for them,” the wrestlers said in their letter.
India’s top wrestlers have been staging a protest since 23 April, demanding the ouster of the Wrestling Federation of India chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing him of sexually harassing women wrestlers.
