At least 16 non-BJP parties, including the Indian National Congress (INC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), National Congress Party (NCP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC), are expected to participate in the first meeting of India's Opposition slated to take place on 12 June.The INC, however, has requested the meeting be shifted to 23 June, since both Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi won’t be available on 12 June, but eventually, it was decided that other senior party members will join the meeting.West Bengal State Chief Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, Delhi State Chief Arvind Kejriwal, former Maharashtra State Chief Uddhav Thackeray, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) patriarch Sharad Pawar, among others, have confirmed that they'll attend the meeting.Media reports said that the opposition parties will discuss fielding one candidate against the BJP to contest every parliamentary seat for the national elections in 2024. India has a total of 543 parliamentary seats across the country.

At least 16 non-BJP parties, including the Indian National Congress (INC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), National Congress Party (NCP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC), are expected to participate in the first meeting of India's Opposition slated to take place on 12 June.
