World Environment Day is celebrated every 5 June to create awareness and encourage efforts to protect the environment. This year's theme is solutions to pollution caused by plastic waste under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.
International acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik continues to spread awareness through his sand art, and this time, he has made a sculpture of a turtle created from 2,320 plastic bottles at Odisha's Puri beach.
Under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution, Pattnaik created his art to raise public concern about the harmful effects of plastic waste can have on the environment.
Pattnaik grabbed everyone's attention with a breathtaking masterpiece portraying a huge turtle resting on the shore and its entire shell composed of hundreds of plastic bottles.
Netizens have taken to the comment section of #WorldEnvironmentDay2023 to share their reactions.
"Let us all protect our environment, our mother Earth by doing our own bit," one user commented.
"Together, we can make a difference and create a greener future for all," wrote another.
"It is an environmental cancer, ready to engulf us all. We still remain so oblivious, so detached, so deliberately ignorant. It is just as if this problem may not affect us in our lifetime. Let the next generation pay for our sins. Aghast," replied a third.
