Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, also known as LSD, is a mind-altering drug which is illegal to possess in India, including selling and consuming.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday said that they had busted drug trafficking networks operating across India through the dark web that used cryptocurrency.
NCB said that they had seized 15,000 blots of LSD, a drug categorised as a hallucinogen. The agency has also seized 2.5kg of imported marijuana and INR 465,000 ($5,630) in cash.
The Bureau has also arrested six people in connection with this case.
NCB Deputy Director General Gyaneshwar Singh said that the network of traffickers is not just limited to India but also operates in Poland, the Netherlands, and the United States.
“Accused dipped stamps in LSD, and the stamp was cut into two parts,” Singh said, adding, “Each half is called an LSD blot. The drug users swallow one blot. About 4-5 blots make for one commercial quantity and are trafficked. Because of its size, LSD blot is easier to smuggle such blots. You can hide it in a book or carry it easily.”
Possession of 0.1 gram is the threshold for possession of a commercial quantity of LSD and the recovered amount is over 2,500 times of that, Singh added.
