Kakhovka Dam Destruction: Ukraine Behind Attack That Risks Major Humanitarian Consequences

Subscribe
Earlier on Tuesday, the Kakhovka power station suffered damage, resulting in water flowing uncontrollably downstream. The situation poses a risk of major flooding, power outages, and water shortages on both sides of the Dnepr River.
A number of Telegram channels early on Tuesday reported that the plant was allegedly completely destroyed. Some published footage of the collapsed dam.
The city authorities have designated the shelling as a 'terrorist attack', while the Kremlin called it planned sabotage by the Ukrainian government.
The local mayor told Sputnik on Tuesday that the water level after the destruction rose 2.5 meters downstream, adding that emergency services were at the scene. Residents were being evacuated to safety.

Russia regrets that the international community did not hear its warnings last October about the potential threat that the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and dam would pose, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said on Tuesday.
