A 19th-century school in Gujarat's Vadnagar city, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was born and had his primary education, has been restored and is being redeveloped as Prerna (Inspirational): The Vernacular School.An official told Indian media that this is the first-of-its-kind school redevelopment project where students will be given an opportunity to become agents of change.This centre of inspiration will open its doors for pupils later this year and will host two students from each district of the country as part of a week-long study tour.Thought the way pupils will be selected has not yet been revealed, the programme will have a batch of 30 students, covering 15 districts, and over 50 weeks all 750 districts will be covered benefiting 1,500 students in total.Calling it an "experiential school", the source shared that it will offer a "unique pedagogy" and use both unconventional and tech-based means to impart knowledge.Redevelopment of Vadnagar city in GujaratVadnagar is not only popular as Modi's birthplace, it is also a heritage city that has a 2,500-year-old excavated site making it the centre of Buddhism.The city is now undergoing a big transformation as a part of a development plan and will include museums, a walkway through an excavated site, and much more.In 2022, Vadnagar city, among other sites in Gujarat, was provisionally added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
