A local court in India's Maharashtra state on Wednesday sent a man accused of killing his 32-year-old live-in partner to judicial custody until 16 June.
According to media reports, 56-year-old Manoj Sane killed his partner, Saraswati Vaidya, an orphan, by
chopping her body into pieces. He used a tree-cutter in order to destroy the evidence.
The incident came to light after residents of Mumbai's Geeta Aakashdeep Cooperative Housing Society on Wednesday evening called the police complaining of a foul smell coming from a flat.
Police visited the society and seized a decomposed dismembered body of a woman.
Police were told that the accused had been living with the victim for three years.
Media reports quoting police officials said that when the police team reached the flat, the accused opened the door. He tried to flee, but was nabbed with the help of residents.
The police found
13 body parts, a tree-cutter, and plastic bags along with three buckets filled with blood in the kitchen in which small pieces of the body were lying. However, some body parts are yet to be found. It is suspected that the accused might have disposed of them.

accused killed the victim over a domestic dispute. It is suspected that the murder could have happened on Sunday, and since then Sane has been disposing off Vaidya’s body parts.
A case has been registered against Sane under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the
Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Meanwhile, Maharashtra State Commission for Woman (MSCW) has sought a report from the Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate on the issue.
