Federal Minister Questions Rahul Gandhi’s Love for India
Congress politician Rahul Gandhi, who is on a ten-day visit to the United States, said while addressing the diaspora on Wednesday that India is not what is being shown in the media, and that the perceived political narrative is far from reality and a “huge distortion”.
Federal Minister of Minority Affairs Smirit Irani on Thursday questioned Congress politician Rahul Gandhi’s love for India.
Slamming Gandhi over his “Mohabbat Ki Dukan” (shop of love) event at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Irani during a press conference said,
“What kind of love is this that massacres Sikhs, that has joined hands with those who loot coal and fodder, that insults Sengol, that boycotts one's own parliament, that doesn't speak when 'The Kerala Story' comes, which shakes hands and hugs those who curse India?”
The reaction from Irani, who also holds the portfolio of Women and Child Development, came after the former Congress chief, while addressing the Indian diaspora during his “Mohabbat Ki Dukan” event, took a swipe at Modi's government, saying that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is “threatening” the people and “misusing” the country's agencies.
Last week, Federal Sports Minister
Anurag Thakur had also slammed the Congress politician during an event in San Francisco said that PM Modi “would start explaining to God how the universe works”, as “some people believe they know everything.”
Reacting to Gandhi’s statement, Thakur had said that Congress leader “couldn't digest” the praise and appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent foreign visits.
He even accused the Congress politician of insulting India on foreign soil as he said that during his foreign visits,
Rahul Gandhi insults India, which is unacceptable.
“He wants to insult PM Modi but ends up insulting India, questioning India's progress. He is trying to tarnish India at a time the world is acknowledging our growing stature,” the minister added.
