Let There Be Light! After 75 Years in the Dark, Village in Chhattisgarh Gets Power
13:31 14.06.2023 (Updated: 20:13 14.06.2023) Parcheli village falls under the Maoist-affected district of Chhattisgarh's Dantewada. Since it is a remote geographical location and a highly security-sensitive area, the electricity has, until now, remained unconnected.
The residents of
Parcheli Village in India's
Chhattisgarh state are overjoyed as they have finally got electricity after 75 years.
Residents were forced to live in darkness for years because of their village's remote geographical location and being a highly security-sensitive area.
Locals told Indian media that living without electricity had been difficult because they had had to finish all their work before sunset. Once it was dark, they kept themselves indoors and depended on lanterns for moving about at night.
Although the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency provided a solar energy unit to tackle some of the electricity issues, it was only ever a temporary measure.
Wiring up Parcheli Village to the grid will benefit approximately 4,000 families, introducing a new way of life for them and
promoting further development in the area. This transformation was spearheaded by the District Electricity Distribution Company and the District Magistrate and Collector of Dantewada, Vineet Nandanwar.
