A massive landslide struck Irsalvadi Village in Raigad district on Thursday. So far 16 people have died and over 100 are still feared trapped in the rubble.
While the weather department has warned of a heavy downpour, the rescue operation in landslide-hit Irsalvadi Village in Raigad district in India's Maharashtra state is still on.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for heavy to very heavy rain in the Thane, Raigad, Pune, and Palghar districts and an Orange alert for Mumbai, Ratnagiri and Satara for Friday.
All schools and colleges in Thane and Palghar districts will remain closed in view of the heavy rain alert.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) resumed the rescue operation in Irsalvadi village, which enters its second day.

By Thursday, the NDRF had rescued 21 people. However, the operation had to be called off on Thursday evening following heavy rainfall and the fear of a landslide.
The weather department has also issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Odisha states.
An Orange Alert has been issued for seven districts of Uttarakhand including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Haridwar on Friday, while a Yellow Alert has been sounded for the state till July 24.

Along with this, a Yellow Alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh till July 22 as some districts are expected to receive heavy rain.
In the wake of the heavy rainfall alert, Telangana State Government has announced that all government offices and educational institutions in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits will have Friday and Saturday off.
Telangana State Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao has also ordered the State Labor Department to take steps to ensure an office holiday amid the heavy rainfall alert.
