The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an 'Orange Alert' for Uttarakhand on Saturday, warning of "heavy to very heavy rainfall" in the state.
Around 40 passengers stranded on a bus which got stuck in a flooded river in India’s Uttar Pradesh state were safely evacuated on Saturday, police said in a statement.
The video shared by police showed passengers being lifted using the crane.
According to Bijnor Police, the incident took place due to flooding of the Kotwali river because of heavy rainfall in the mountainous areas of the neighbouring state of Uttarakhand.
The Kotwali is one of the smaller tributaries of the Ganges, which originates in the Himalayas in Uttarakhand before flowing onward to Uttar Pradesh.
The bus was travelling from Haridwar (Uttarakhand) to Najibabad (located in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district) when it got stuck in the flooded river, the statement said.
Videos of the incident have gone viral on Indian social media.
