Pakistan Fires Missiles at TTP Hideouts in Afghanistan, Claims Ex-Afghan President
The Taliban* is yet to officially confirm the alleged missile strikes against banned terrorism group Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP)** hideouts in Paktia province.
Former
Afghanistan President
Hamid Karzai has claimed that
Pakistan's forces
launched missile attacks against hideouts of
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan** (TTP) last week.
Karzai took to social media on Thursday to “strongly condemn” the missile strikes in Paktia province, located along the Durand Line, the 2,252 km international land border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The former Afghan leader urged Pakistan to take the “path of brotherhood” toward Kabul.
The missile strikes come amid ongoing friction between the two countries over activities of the TTP, which Islamabad claims is based out of Afghanistan.
‘Pakistan’s Patience Wearing Thin’, Envoy Tells Taliban
According to the interim Afghan Foreign Ministry, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Asif Durrani paid a visit to Kabul this week.
Durrani told Afghanistan’s Acting Prime Minister Maulvi Abdul Kabir and the interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi that Islamabad’s patience vis-à-vis the TTP was “wearing thin”, according to sources cited by Express Tribune daily of Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told a press briefing this week that the
issue of terrorism has been raised at “every important engagement” between the Taliban and Islamabad.
She said that the “threat of terrorism” from Afghanistan was discussed during Durrani’s visit to Kabul.
A
United Nations (UN) Security Council report released this week has said that the TTP has been
“emboldened” after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in Augst 2021, validating previous findings by several think-tanks about the resurgence of TTP.
