Currently, most of the regions of India are seeing southwest monsoons accompanied by rainfall and wind. Fishermen during such a season often lose navigation or get stuck after some technical glitch in their boats.
The Indian Navy on Saturday said it has rescued 36 Indian fishermen who had found themselves stranded at sea in their fishing vessels. The fishermen were stuck in the Bay of Bengal for over two days due to prevalent weather conditions without fuel, provisions and engine breakdowns.
"The Indian Naval Mission Deployed in the Bay of Bengal, has safely brought back 36 Indian fishermen who were stranded 130 nautical miles from the Tamil Nadu coast," Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.
The fishermen were rescued by the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Khanjar, which was on an operational deployment in the Bay of Bengal.
The three fishing vessels - the Sabarainathan, Kalaivani, and V Sami, safely returned to Chennai harbor on Friday, Madhwal added.
