Missile-Like Object Discovered in Delhi Ahead of Independence Day
Ahead of the grand celebration of the anniversary of India's independence on August 15, security measures have been intensified across Delhi NCR. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the tricolor flag and address the nation from the Red Fort.
Panic struck residents of Sector 28 of Delhi's Rohini area after the police recovered a missile-like object from the Munak Canal near Samaypur Badli police station on the weekend.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North)
Ravi Kumar Singh told media that they received a call on Sunday about a
suspected explosive device. Police reached the spot and cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure.
"Prima-facie, it looks like an old and hollow mortar shell, but all precautions are being taken to dispose of the shell," the DCP stated.
As the police investigate how the missile-like object arrived in the Munak Canal, a team of the anti-terror agency, the National Security Guards (NSG), are working on disposing the recovered explosive.
This is not the first time when a
missile-like object has been found in the canal.
