The launch of "Luna-25" is scheduled for August 11, 2023, at 04:40 a.m. IST. The station's scientific work is planned to last for a year.
The automated lunar station, "Luna-25," is poised to embark on its maiden voyage to the Moon.
The mission aims to demonstrate advanced soft landing technology, collect and analyze lunar soil samples, and conduct extensive scientific research. The primary focus will be on studying the upper layer of the surface regolith near the Moon's South Pole and exploring the lunar exosphere.

According to Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, "Luna-25" distinguishes itself from its predecessors in terms of landing procedures. While the Soviet lunar stations made equatorial landings, this new station is designed to execute a precise soft landing in the challenging terrain of the near-polar region. This significant departure in landing strategy showcases Russia's technological advancements in lunar exploration.

"Luna-25" is a small-size demonstration landing station to practice basic technologies of soft landing in the near-polar region and conduct contact studies of the South Pole.
Since the mission is automated, the entire flight plan is programmed on the Earth in advance and loaded into an onboard computer designed specifically for the "Luna-25" mission.
