The Ukrainian army began to retreat from the vicinity of Kharkov due to a strike by the Russian army, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson told Sputnik Radio.

"Now Russia has [advanced] near Kharkov and is exerting serious pressure on a broad front. Ukraine has begun to evacuate the population, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine are retreating," the expert said.

According to him, Kiev lacks sufficient weapons and ammunition to fend off this onslaught.
