Maharashtra Confers Ratan Tata With First Udyog Ratna Award

Ratan Tata was the chairman of Tata Group from 1990 to 2012, and later he became the interim chairman from October 2016 to February 2017. He still heads the charitable trusts run by Tata Group.
The Maharashtra state government on Saturday honoured Ratan Tata, renowned businessman, philanthropist and chairman emeritus of Tata Group, with the first ever “Udyog Ratna” award.
The award was conferred by Maharashtra state chief Eknath Shinde and deputy state chiefs Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavisat Tata’s residence in the Colaba area of Mumbai city.
The honour comprised a shawl, a citation, and a memento from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
After conferring the award to Tata, Maharashtra state chief said, while talking to the media, that honouring Tata as Udyog Ratna has enhanced the prestige of the award. Lauding the contribution of the conglomerate, Shinde said: “The contribution of the Tata group in all sectors is immense. Tata means trust”.
Tata group currently operates in more than 100 countries across six continents, and the collective revenue of all its companies in the year 2021-22 stood at $128 billion.
Ratan Tata is also the recipient of the Padma Bhushan (third highest civilian award of India) in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan (second highest civilian award of India) in 2008.
