Climate change is an ongoing phenomenon, and countries in the South Asia are most impacted.
Amid a rain shortfall, India recorded the highest average temperature for August, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

"All India's average mean and maximum temperatures in August 2023 were the record highest since 1901 and minimum temperature was second highest," IMD tweeted.

In August this year, the country witnessed a roughly 36 percent deficit in rainfall, recording 162.7 mm of rain against the average of 254.9 mm for the month.
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General at the IMD, recently told Sputnik India that the El Nino impact was seen on the Indian monsoon in August.
However, experts suggest the monsoon rain will pick up from September 4 and rainfall will cover up the deficit.
