The Global South's unified position has prevented the West from making Ukraine a key topic at the G-20 summit, despite the fact that Western countries tried to derail the agenda using the
Ukrainian conflict, Lavrov stressed during the press conference at the G-20 Summit.
Lavrov praised India's G-20 presidency, hailing it as the first time when the Group of Twenty participants were truly consolidated, and where BRICS countries were active.
"The summit is an unconditional success, for the Indian presidency, and for all of us. The G-20 is undergoing internal reform. This was reflected in the significant activation of G-20 members representing the Global South," Lavrov said during the press conference.
Lavrov also commended India's work on the G20 final declaration.
"The summit, of course, will provide a very serious impetus, a positive impetus in reforming both the IMF and the World Trade Organization," the minister said.
He added that if quotas and votes are divided fairly within the IMF, the United States will lose its veto power.
Regarding the Black Sea Grain Deal, the top diplomat said that Moscow appreciates UN chief Guterres’s efforts concerning the deal, but they will be destined to fail if the West keeps making promises without taking any real steps toward implementing Russia’s terms.
Speaking about
Russia-India cooperation, Lavrov stressed that all defence industry cooperation agreements signed by Moscow and New Delhi remain in force despite the trade imbalance between the two nations.
"All our agreements, including on defense industry cooperation, remain in force," Lavrov told journalists, when asked whether the trade imbalance between the two countries and rupees stuck in the accounts of Russian companies might disrupt the supply of Russia's S-400 air defense systems to India.
New Delhi has also assured Moscow it will offer promising areas for investing billions of rupees stuck in the accounts of Russian firms, the top Russian diplomat added.
Answering a question on whether a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin is possible to India this year, Lavrov said that bilateral meetings would be announced by the two countries' officials if any.
