Watch Russian Northern Fleet Fire Anti-Submarine Weapons as Part of Arctic Exercises

The Northern Fleet was established in 1733 to protect Russia's Arctic borders and sea routes. The fleet began as a small squadron, but soon grew into a formidable force, always ready to operate in the most difficult circumstances.
The Russian Defense Ministry released a video on Thursday showing Northern Fleet ships firing shells as part of Arctic exercises.

"The combat team practiced using anti-submarine weapons along with artillery and cruise missiles, with special emphasis on eliminating terrorist threats," military officials said.

In spring this year, Russia adopted a new foreign policy concept emphasizing the importance of the Arctic region and cautioning against its militarization. Nevertheless, Russian officials emphasize that NATO countries have greatly increased the frequency of military exercises in northern waters, so Moscow calls on it to take all necessary measures to protect national interests and enhance its defense capabilities in the Arctic region.
