India wins Asia Cup 2023 after beating Sri Lanka in final by 10 wickets.
India made history by winning the 8th Asia Cup trophy after defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final match on Sunday in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
India's openers, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, effortlessly achieved the target of 51 runs in just 6.1 overs, leaving Sri Lanka helpless in their attempts to defend the lowest-ever total in the one-day internationals (ODI) format of the Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka opted to bat first after winning the toss, but found themselves in a situation after losing their first six wickets for 12 runs.
Their innings ended in just 15.2 overs. Kusal Mendis was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 17 runs off 34 balls.
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj accomplished a phenomenal feat by becoming the fourth bowler in ODI history to take four wickets in a single over, shattering the Sri Lankan innings.
In his second over and the third over of the Sri Lankan innings, Siraj dismissed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva.
Siraj showed incredible prowess in his next over by dismissing the Sri Lankan captain, Dasun Shanaka.
With this feat, he now shares the honour of being the joint fastest bowler to achieve a remarkable five-wicket haul in ODI, reaching the astonishing milestone in a mere 2.4 overs.
Siraj put the Sri Lankan top order in turmoil, but it was Hardik Pandya who truly stole the show by taking the last three wickets, impressively snatching two in just two consecutive balls.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's 50-all-out is now their second-lowest total in ODIs and the lowest ever recorded by any team against India in one-day internationals.
