The "India-UN Capacity Building Initiative", a cooperative effort between India and the UN, aims to strengthen the capacities of countries in the Global South.
In order to share India's development experiences, best practices, and expertise with partner nations in the Global South through capacity building and training programmes, India and the United Nations have launched the "India-UN Capacity Building Initiative", according to a press release from the UN.
The initiative was introduced during an event called "India-UN for the Global South Delivering for Development" in New York on September 23, 2023, in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, according to the official press release.
Dennis Francis, the 78th General Assembly president, Fiame Naomi Mata'afa, the prime minister of Samoa, Tandi Dorji, the minister of foreign affairs of Bhutan, Vince Henderson, the minister of foreign affairs, international trade, and energy of Dominica, and Hugh Hilton Todd, the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation of Guyana, participated in the event.
The "India-UN Capacity Building Initiative" expands on the significant bilateral development and capacity-building cooperation that India already shares with its partner nations, according to the press release.
The initiative, which reflects India's ongoing efforts to strengthen its development partnership with the Global South, was recognized by the UN as making a significant contribution to international efforts to strengthen South-South Cooperation in order to accelerate momentum for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The initiative, according to the press release, builds on India's successful G20 Presidency, which saw the inclusion of the African Union and the voice of the Global South on the G20 agenda.
