Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will address the annual UNGA session on Tuesday, where he will share his views on issues of global concern as well as push India's demand for United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reforms.Of late, New Delhi has repeatedly pointed out that the present form of the UNSC which has five permanent members - China, France, Russia, the UK, and the US, does not represent the current state of geopolitics, and hence the institution's membership has to be expanded to ten permanent members.India is among the G-4 group of countries, including Japan, Germany, and Brazil that have staked claim to a permanent seat in the UNSC.Surprisingly, one of New Delhi's staunchest critics, Turkey has also come out in support of its permanent membership in the UNSC.Among other topics that Jaishankar is expected to emphasize during his speech at the UNGA are India's successful presidency of the G20, the rights of Global South nations, and sustainable development goals (SDGs).
