In the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China India clinched gold in the men’s hockey by defeating Japan in the finals.The Indian team led by Harmanpreet Singh scored five goals against Japan which in turn only managed to score one goal.The victory against Japan in the 19thAsian Games has also secured a direct entry to 2024 Paris Olympics as the Olympic berth is assured for only the gold medallist of the sport in both the men’s and women’s categories.The win means India is now tied with South Korea as the world's second-most successful men’s hockey team in the Asian Games with four gold medals. Pakistan is still the most successful team with nine golds.So far, India has won 95 medals in the Asian Games which continue until 8 October. The haul comprises 22 Gold, 34 Silver and 39 Bronze medals and is the best show by India in the Asian Games.Federal Minister for Sports Anurag Thakur congratulated the team for winning Gold and securing the Olympic berth.

19:37 06.10.2023 (Updated: 13:23 10.10.2023) Indian men’s hockey team has remained unbeaten during the 2023 Asian Games as they defeated Uzbekistan, Singapore, Bangladesh, Japan and Pakistan in their run to the finals.
In the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China India clinched gold in the men’s hockey by defeating Japan in the finals.
The Indian team led by Harmanpreet Singh scored five goals against Japan which in turn only managed to score one goal.
The victory against Japan in the
19thAsian Games has also secured a direct entry to 2024 Paris Olympics as the Olympic berth is assured for only the gold medallist of the sport in both the men’s and women’s categories.
This is the fourth time India has won gold in the hockey - the previous occasions being in 1966, 1998 and 2014. In the last Asian Games in Jakarta, India's hockey players finished third, bagging the bronze.
The win means India is now tied with South Korea as the world's second-most successful men’s hockey team in the Asian Games with four gold medals. Pakistan is still the most successful team with nine golds.
