At least seven people have been killed and 51 have suffered injuries after a massive fire broke out at a multi-storey building in the Goregaon West area of Mumbai city on Friday.Of the seven people who lost their life, two were minors.The injured were rushed to Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College (HBT) Hospital and Cooper Hospital in the city.While talking to the media, officials said that the fire spread through the shops on the ground floor where scrap material was being kept, not to mention several vehicles and other things.However, the cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.According to media reports, eight fire engines, five jumbo water tankers, three automatic turn tables, one turn table ladder, a quick response vehicle and an ambulance reached the spot soon after the alarm was raised about the fire.Firefighters used ladders and Breathing Apparatus Sets (BA Sets) while carrying out rescue operations.Maharashtra State Chief Eknath Shinde sent his condolences to the families of those who had died in the blaze and, while talking to the media, said: “I am continuously talking with the Municipal Commissioner and Police... What happened is unfortunate. The government will provide monetary help of INR 500,000 ($6,000) to their families... Those who are injured will be given treatment by the government.”Expressing his grief over the tragedy, Maharashtra's Deputy State Chief Devendra Fadnavis said in a tweet: “Pained to know about the loss of life in the fire incident at Goregaon, Mumbai. We are in touch with BMC & Mumbai Police officials & all the assistance is being provided. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wishing speedy recovery to the injured.”

Massive Fire in Mumbai Multi-Storey Claims Seven Lives
Fire broke out at the Jay Bhavani building in the Goregaon West area of India's Mumbai at 03.00 IST (21.30 GMT, Thursday) and after tireless efforts by the firefighters, was finally extinguished by around 07.00.
At least seven people have been killed and 51 have suffered injuries after a massive fire broke out at a multi-storey building in the Goregaon West area of Mumbai city on Friday.
Of the seven people who lost their life, two were minors.
The injured were rushed to Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College (HBT) Hospital and Cooper Hospital in the city.
While talking to the media, officials said that the
fire spread through the shops on the ground floor where scrap material was being kept, not to mention several vehicles and other things.
Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar told media that the building was erected in 2006 under the Slum Rehabilitation scheme and had no fire fighting system, adding that the lift was old and a great amount of smoke travelled through the lift shaft.
However, the cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
