Navratri, a Hindu festival meaning 'nine nights' in Sanskrit, commences on 15 October and concludes with Vijaydashmi or Dussehra on 10 October.
The sacred festival of Navratri begins this Sunday, heralding nine days brimming with joyous celebrations and an immense spirit of devotion for Hindu devotees both in India and around the world. With great pomp and enthusiasm, they worship Goddess Durga at their homes or adorned temples.
On each day of the festival, one of the nine divine incarnations of the goddess Durga is worshipped, representing the power of womanhood and believed to protect people from negative forces.
On the first day of Navratri, Hindu devotees worship the goddess Shailputri, also known as Hemavati or Parvati, one of the forms of the goddess Durga.
According to legend, she is the daughter of Lord Himalaya. She is frequently portrayed seated on a powerful bull, brandishing a Trishula, a divine weapon with a sharp edge, in her right hand, while delicately holding a lotus flower in her left.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended greetings to the countrymen on X (formerly known as Twitter), as they prayed to Goddess Shailputri to bless the people of the country with strength and prosperity.
Netizens were in for a treat last week when PM Modi gifted them a new Garba song 'Maadi' penned by him and sung by Meet Brothers band Divya Kumar.
He also penned another Garba song titled 'Garbo' which is sung by singers Tanishk Bagchi and Dhvani Bhanushali.
Both songs perfectly captured the exhilaration and enchantment of the Navratri festival and the importance of performing the Garba dance throughout the nine-day celebration.
Netizens flood social media with glimpses of their celebration and worship of Goddess Durga.
