Amit Shah was in Chhattisgarh to campaign for his party, the BJP, in the upcoming state assembly elections, to be held in two phases on 7 and 17 November.
India's Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Amit Shah on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led government, accusing it of being involved in religious conversion.
He even accused the state government of being involved in a scam, and said that if the BJP was voted to power, the corrupt people would be lodged in jail.

“In the Congress rule, religious conversion is on the rise. The Constitution gives liberty to every citizen to follow the faith of their choice. But they have started using the state machinery to convert poor tribals, which is not in the interest of the state," he stated it while addressing a poll rally in Pandariya assembly constituency of Chhattisgarh state.

The senior BJP politician said that because of religious conversion in the state, clashes had erupted in every house and village and the law and order situation had deteriorated.
He also stated that the BJP government would not interfere in anyone’s religious issue but if anyone encouraged religious conversion, a strict action would be undertaken to prevent it.
The elections in Chhattisgarh will be a direct contest between the BJP and Congress. Apart from Chhattisgarh, the other states to undergo polls are Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram.
The results of the elections will be declared on 3 December for all the states.
