The 6.4-magnitude quake, which jolted Nepal late Friday night and left 157 people dead, is now being followed by a series of tremors.
An earthquake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Nepal on Monday afternoon, making it the third quake to have hit the Himalayan country in three days.
Though the quake caused panic among local residents in Nepal, the
tremors were felt in Delhi too.
Meanwhile, India on Sunday provided 11 tonnes of emergency relief material to Nepal to assist the locals hit by the devastating earthquake that has left about 375 people injured apart from the casualties.
The first consignment of relief material worth INR 100 million ($1.2 million) was flown to Nepalgunj by a C-130 transport aircraft of
the Indian Air Force (IAF).
India has provided $1 billion to Nepal as part of its long-term assistance for post-earthquake reconstruction in the
housing, education, health and cultural heritage sectors. This included the rebuilding of 50,000 houses in the Gorkha and Nuwakot districts.
“Providing emergency relief assistance to earthquake affected areas of Nepal. As a first responder, India delivers medicines and relief material,” Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar posted on X (formerly known as
Twitter)
Jaishankar described it as an instance of India’s “Neighbourhood First policy in action”.
