India Successfully Test-Fires Pralay Missile Days After Testing BrahMos ER
18:05 07.11.2023 (Updated: 18:20 10.11.2023) India has carried out a string of missile tests in recent weeks, with the latest one coming on Tuesday when another projectile was test-fired from the country's eastern coast.
On Tuesday, India conducted a successful test-firing of the Pralay (destruction) missile from Abdul Kalam Island located off the coast of its eastern state of Odisha.
According to a defense official, the test launch of the missile was done at 9:50 IST this morning, with the mission accomplishing
all its objectives.
During its flight trajectory, the missile test's progress was monitored with the help of a series of tracking instruments, he added.
Pralay, having a range of 350-500 kilometers, is a short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile (SRBM), designed and developed by India's premier defense research firm Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The projectile has a warhead capacity of 500 to 1,000 kilograms.
Pralay is expected to be deployed along India's borders with Pakistan and China. Both Pakistan and China share disputed borders with India.
Pralay's successful test launch comes only days after a guided missile destroyer of the
Indian Navy carried out a similar test of what is believed to be an extended-range version of the
highly acclaimed BrahMos rocket.
"A destroyer of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet successfully test-fired a BrahMos missile in the Bay of Bengal. The missile achieved all mission objectives," India's blue water force said last week.
