On 7 October, Hamas launched a large-scale rocket attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. In turn, Israel ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip and on 27 October launched ground incursion inside Gaza.
Arab countries consider the only condition for establishing peace with Israel to be the end of the Jewish state's occupation of all Palestinian and Arab lands, the joint statement of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Arab League read on Saturday.

"The precondition for peace with Israel and the establishment of normal relations with it is the end of its occupation of all Palestinian and Arab lands, as well as the realization of the independence of the State of Palestine with full sovereignty within the borders of June 4, 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem," the statement said.

"At no stage have we said that we are not going to strike in southern Gaza. There may be cases where we will strike military targets of importance in Gaza … [We said] only that we are focusing our main combat activity, our main operations in the north.
