18:22 13.11.2023 (Updated: 13:30 16.11.2023) The first-ever Russian-Myanmar naval drill in the Andaman Sea marked a significant milestone for military cooperation between the two countries. Now, the Pakistani and Chinese navies are also conducting drills.
Days after the Russian Pacific Fleet and Myanmar rehearsed fending off attacks in their first-ever maritime exercise, Chinese and Pakistani warships are conducting week-long manoeuvres in the Arabian Sea.
The Chinese and Pakistani navy began the exercise in the northern Arabian Sea's waters and airspace on Saturday at a naval facility in Karachi. The manoeuvres included anti-submarine operations and the last day of the exercise is 17 November.
China and Pakistan will undertake cooperative
marine patrols for the first time during the exercise, according to Monday media reports.
In the Andaman Sea, on the northeastern edge of the Indian Ocean, from November 7–9, Moscow organised "the first Russian-Myanmar naval exercise in modern history." This marked a significant milestone for
Russia's naval presence in a sea that the US considers to be one of its global security interests.
Two sizable
Russian anti-submarine vessels, Admiral Tributs and Admiral Panteleyev, practised last week with a frigate and a corvette from the Myanmar navy, reports media last week.
