India has had longstanding concerns about the activities of the UK-based Sikh extremists involved in perpetrating terrorism against Indian interests.
Indian foreign minister S. Jaishankar, who is on an official visit to the United Kingdom, has raised concerns over pro-Khalistan extremism with his British counterparts, according to a statement from the top Indian diplomat.
Jaishankar met outgoing foreign secretary James Cleverly on Sunday as well as incoming foreign secretary David Cameron on Monday.

“Exchanged views on addressing shared concerns on extremism, economic offenses, trafficking and security,” the top Indian diplomat stated in a social media post on X on Monday evening.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) readout after Jaishankar’s meeting with Cameron noted that the two top diplomats discussed the Gaza confict, the Ukraine crisis and developments in Indo-Pacific during their talks.
The British side stated that they also discussed “progressing a free trade agreement” and cooperation in defence, science and technology.
Tensions between India and the UK over the Khalistan issue peaked in March after Sikh secessionists attacked the Indian High Commission building in London, provoking a diplomatic protest by New Delhi.
India’s premier anti-terror organization National Investigation Agency took over the probe into the incident, releasing pictures of 45 suspects it said were involved in the High Commission attack.
In September, the Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami was accosted by pro-Khalistan extremists who stopped him from entering a Sikh temple in Glasgow.
New Delhi condemned the incident and urged the UK authorities to act against the culprits.
