Flydubai, a United Arab Emirates-based airline, has decided to operate two daily flights to Kabul.
The Taliban* movement has welcomed the resumption of Flydubai flights to Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport on Wednesday, almost two years after the service was suspended.
Flight resumption is "indicative of the restoration of Afghanistan's airspace to a secure and conventional state, accommodating various types of flights," Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar said.
All international airlines halted their services to Afghanistan in mid-August 2021 when the Taliban seized power. In October, FlyDubai
released a statement saying that flights would resume in Kabul.
Apart from FlyDubai, so far, no other airlines have said that they will resume their service in the country.
In 2022, the
Taliban signed a deal allowing
UAE-based firm GAAC Solutions to manage three airports in Afghanistan -- Herat, Kabul and Kandahar.
*The Taliban is under UN sanctions for extremism.
