UFO Sighting Triggers Three-Hour Shutdown of Imphal Airport
15:04 20.11.2023 (Updated: 18:15 20.11.2023) An Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) was sighted over Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal, India, causing a temporary suspension of flights.
After an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) was sighted over the airport on Sunday afternoon, the Indian Air Force (IAF) Eastern Command activated its air defence mechanism. The airspace over Imphal was temporarily closed and all flight operations at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport were suspended for more than three hours, Indian media reported.
In an X post, the IAF Eastern Command said, "IAF activated its Air Defence Response mechanism based on visual inputs from the Imphal airport. The small object was not seen thereafter”.
According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), at 2:30 pm, Imphal Air Traffic Control (ATC) received a phone call from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) control room informing that an unidentified flying object (UFO) was hovering over the terminal building. The UFO then moved south above the ATC and stayed motionless there for a while. It then moved southwest of the airfield, where it remained visible until 4:05 p.m., and vanished thereafter.
An AAI official stated that the object was white and was visible to the naked eye, becoming invisible as dusk approached.
The Airports Authority of India stated that at 3:55 pm, the Eastern Command of the IAF commenced their "Mission Red & Mission Blue" by scrambling fighter planes over Imphal airspace, which continued until 5:35 pm." It further stated that following IAF clearance, regular airport flight operations resumed at 5:50 p.m.
The
most recent UFO sighting event occurred in 2021, when people in Punjab and other northern states of India claimed to have seen strange, enigmatic lights in the night sky.
