The speeches of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Virtual G-20 Leaders’ Summit hosted by the Indian presidency indicate a "high degree of convergence" on the common aspiration to achieve a multipolar world order, a geopolitical pundit has told Sputnik India. "The common global problems, including food and energy insecurity and climate change threats among others, require collective solutions. That point was driven by both the leaders in the respective addresses," Marjani asserted.The analyst stated that New Delhi had consistently maintained that these problems had disproportionately affected the developing nations, though they played no role in fomenting them. During his address at the G-20 virtual summit which was attended by leaders from the developed and developing nations, Putin described the grouping as an "important structure of economic management". He called for taking into account the changing world order while arriving at major global economic and other decisions. For his part, Modi made an appeal for forging "mutual trust" among the leaders, underlining that India through its G20 presidency has sent an "unprecedented message of inclusivity" to the whole world. Modi highlighted that African Union's (AU) formal membership to the G20 at the New Delhi leaders' summit in September meant that the continent had found a "voice" of its own. The Indian Prime Minister noted that New Delhi had endeavoured to prioritise the developmental agenda of the Global South nations. Modi recalled that New Delhi hosted two virtual Voice of Global South Summits during its G20 presidency to hear the concerns of low and middle-income nations. The most recent Voice of Global South Summit, which witnessed the participation of nearly 125 nations, was held last week. Modi & Putin Back Greater Role for Global South in Global Order "I believe that the African Union's inclusion as a G20 member under the Indian Presidency has been the most significant achievement of India," he said. Marjani also recounted that New Delhi had been focussed on coordinating global response to "non-traditional security threats" facing the developing nations during its G20 presidency.Modi expressed confidence that the G-20 had reposed the global faith in "multilateralism". The Russian President blamed the ongoing global economic volatility on the unilateral policies of the western governments rather than Moscow's special military operation. The Russian President told the virtual gathering that Moscow had been fulfilling its international obligations of supplying free grains to African states as well as exporting affordable energy despite the western sanctions.

The Indian and Russian leaders made a strong pitch for inclusive global decision-making and backed addressing concerns of Global South at the G-20 virtual summit.
The speeches of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Virtual G-20 Leaders’ Summit hosted by the Indian presidency indicate a "high degree of convergence" on the common aspiration to achieve a multipolar world order, a geopolitical pundit has told Sputnik India.
"The speeches of the both leaders emphasised on the need for collective decision-making to address the developmental and security challenges facing the world, particularly the developing nations," Niranjan Marjani, a fellow at Indian think tank Kalinga Institute of Indo-Pacific Studies (KIIPS) told Sputnik India.
"The common global problems, including
food and energy insecurity and climate change threats among others, require collective solutions. That point was driven by both the leaders in the respective addresses," Marjani asserted.
The analyst stated that New Delhi had consistently maintained that these problems had disproportionately affected the developing nations, though they played no role in fomenting them.
During his address at the G-20 virtual summit which was attended by leaders from the developed and developing nations, Putin described the grouping as an "important structure of economic management".
He called for taking into account the

"Now, the situation in the global economy requires, and in the world as a whole, collective, consensus decisions that reflect the opinion of the overwhelming majority of the international community, both developed and developing countries,” Putin remarked.
For his part, Modi made an appeal for forging "mutual trust" among the leaders, underlining that India through its G20 presidency has sent an "unprecedented message of inclusivity" to the whole world.

"I believe that the African Union's inclusion as a G20 member under the Indian Presidency has been the most significant achievement of India," he said.
Marjani also recounted that New Delhi had been focussed on coordinating global response to "non-traditional security threats" facing the developing nations during its G20 presidency.
"Addressing the non-traditional security threats, including food and energy crisis, climate change,
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) financing gap, digital infrastructure needs and debt distress among others in the Global South have driven India’s approach,” Marjani underlined.
Modi expressed confidence that the G-20 had reposed the global faith in "multilateralism".
"Together, we have given direction to Multilateral Development Banks (MDB) and global governance reforms," the Indian Prime Minister stated.
The
Russian President blamed the ongoing global economic volatility on the unilateral policies of the western governments rather than Moscow's special military operation.
“Russia stands for restoring the spirit of open and mutually beneficial international economic cooperation, based on the norms of the UN Charter and the principles of collegial and mutually respectful teamwork. It is important to achieve effective optimization of the global economic management system, namely, to restart the WTO in full, including its arbitration function,” Putin said in his address.
The Russian President told the virtual gathering that Moscow had been fulfilling its international obligations of supplying free grains to African states as well as exporting affordable energy despite the western sanctions.
