The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has initiated three-dimensional (3D) laser scanning for the maintenance of Ratna Bhandar, the treasury of the Puri Jagannath Temple in Odisha.
A cutting-edge 3D laser and photogrammetric survey has been initiated by the ASI on the Ratna Bhandar, the treasury of the Jagannath Temple, in order to assess its current condition and explore the possibility of its maintenance.

The Ratna, which is said to be preserving priceless gems and jewellery of the deities, is speculated to have developed cracks on the walls and roofs for repair.

With the help of a 3D camera, even the tiniest cracks on a surface that would otherwise go unnoticed by the naked eye can be detected. The ASI officials said that, if required, they may also use drones for laser scanning.
Dibishada Brajasundar Garnayak, the superintending archaeologist of ASI (Puri circle), stated that once the survey is completed, they will proceed with the essential tasks of structural conservation and chemical preservation of the Ratna Bhandar.
A skilled team of 15 members, including surveyors, civil engineers, draftsmen, and archaeologists from both the state and the cities of Delhi and Mumbai, has been employed for this project.
