India and Myanmar discussed the security situation along the 1,600-kilometre-long border during the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the two neighbours on Wednesday, according to an Indian foreign ministry statement.The foreign office talks were co-chaired by Indian foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra and Myanmar's deputy foreign minister U Lwin Oo.The Indian statement noted that the two sides also discussed "trade, commerce and connectivity, status of bilateral development projects in Myanmar and concerns related to transnational crimes".The Indian foreign secretary also expressed New Delhi's ongoing support for socio-economic development and connectivity projects, as well as India-led projects in the state of Rakhine.Major Indian connectivity projects in Myanmar comprise the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project as well as the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway project.Rebels Gain Ground Near India Border: ReportsThe India-Myanmar foreign office talks took place against the backdrop of escalation in fighting between the forces of Tatmadaw and the opposition fighters in the Shan and Chin states.The UN claims that over 500,000 residents have been left internally displaced by the new round of fighting, on top of over 2 million IDPs since the coup in 2021.An umbrella group of three ethnic militias known as the 'Three Brotherhood Alliance (3BHA)' have led the latest offensive against Tatmadaw, reportedly inflicting losses on the military government's forces in areas close to the China and India borders.Nearly 5,000 refugees have crossed over into India from Myanmar in recent months. New Delhi already hosts over 75,000 Myanmar refugees, as per reports citing Indian officials.

18:18 06.12.2023 (Updated: 10:57 07.12.2023) Besides concerns over the refugee influx, India is worried about the spillover of fighting across its border due to cultural affinities between people in the Indian northeast and Myanmar.
India and Myanmar discussed the security situation along the 1,600-kilometre-long border during the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the two neighbours on Wednesday, according to an Indian foreign ministry statement.
The foreign office talks were co-chaired by Indian foreign secretary
Vinay Kwatra and Myanmar's deputy foreign minister U Lwin Oo.
The Indian statement noted that the two sides also discussed "trade, commerce and connectivity, status of bilateral
development projects in Myanmar and concerns related to transnational crimes".
"The Indian side reiterated its support to Myanmar for its transition towards a federal democracy," it stated.
The Indian foreign secretary also expressed New Delhi's ongoing support for socio-economic development and connectivity projects, as well as India-led projects in the state of Rakhine.
According to official statistics, India's development assistance to Myanmar amounts to nearly $1.75 billion, most of which has been provided in the form of grants.

Rebels Gain Ground Near India Border: Reports
The India-Myanmar foreign office talks took place against the backdrop of escalation in fighting between the forces of Tatmadaw and the opposition fighters in the Shan and Chin states.
According to an update from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Tuesday, the fighting has escalated since late October and expanded from Shan to Rakhine and other parts of the nation in north-west adjoining the India border.
The UN claims that over 500,000 residents have been left internally displaced by the new round of fighting, on top of over 2 million IDPs since the coup in 2021.
