Rebels Gain Ground Near India Border: Reports
The India-Myanmar foreign office talks took place against the backdrop of escalation in fighting between the forces of Tatmadaw and the opposition fighters in the Shan and Chin states.
According to an update from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Tuesday, the fighting has escalated since late October and expanded from Shan to Rakhine and other parts of the nation in north-west adjoining the India border.
The UN claims that over 500,000 residents have been left internally displaced by the new round of fighting, on top of over 2 million IDPs since the coup in 2021.
An umbrella group of three ethnic militias known as the 'Three Brotherhood Alliance (3BHA)' have led the latest offensive against Tatmadaw, reportedly inflicting losses on the military government's forces in areas close to the
China and India borders.
Nearly 5,000 refugees
have crossed over into India from Myanmar in recent months. New Delhi already hosts over 75,000 Myanmar refugees, as per reports citing Indian officials.
