According to the media report, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) held a meeting to set up 10,000 secure emails across 17 Union ministries and departments.The email system has been designed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and is based on Zero Trust Authentication (ZTA).A large number of cyber attacks have been reported in recent months, including on government websites and institutes.On 23 November, the website of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital was hacked, paralysing electronic medical services for several weeks. The server holds data on millions of Indian patients, and at least 100 entries are made every hour.Earlier this year, in February, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) invited bids from private players to select cloud service providers for "operation, management and migration of existing and future projects".Later, in September, the Hindustan Times reported that the government had selected Chennai-based business solutions provider Zoho to handle the email services of 3.3 million government employees. However, this information was never officially disclosed.Rajeev Chandrashekhar, minister of state for MeITY, recently told parliament that from January 2018 to October 2023, a total of 165 data breaches involving citizen data were observed.

The Indian government has set up secure email for 10,000 users working in key ministries, Indian media reported on Monday.
According to the media report, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) held a meeting to set up 10,000 secure emails across 17 Union ministries and departments.
The email system has been designed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and is based on Zero Trust Authentication (ZTA).
"Usernames and passwords are not enough; now two-factor authentication has been activated. Besides passwords, facial recognition or biometrics are required. Log-in and log-out times are recorded and monitored," Indian media reported.
