The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to significantly extend the operational life of its fleet of 272 Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft, ensuring they remain a key component of its capabilities for the next 15-20 years or more. This fleet enhancement initiative marks a strategic move to maintain air superiority in the region. In addition to life extension, the IAF is focused on augmenting the fighters' operational capabilities. This includes major upgrades in advanced indigenous radars, avionics, and weapon systems. A notable development is the integration of the Virupaaksha radar, a domestically developed system, into the Sukhoi-30 MKI fighters. As the IAF prepares for the future, these upgrades and life extensions of the Su-30 MKI fleet demonstrate India's dedication to maintaining a strong and technologically advanced air force, capable of defending its airspace and interests for decades to come.

IAF to Prolong Service Life of Russian Su-30MKI Jets Beyond Two Decades
The Indian Air Force aims to extend the service life of its 272 Su-30 MKI jets by over 20 years, including upgrades with advanced radars and indigenous weapon systems, maintaining the fleet until around 2045-2050.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to significantly extend the operational life of its fleet of
272 Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft, ensuring they remain a key component of its capabilities
for the next 15-20 years or more. This fleet enhancement initiative marks a strategic move to maintain air superiority in the region.
"Indian Air Force is looking to extend the service life of the fighter jets by another 20 years or more. Indian Air Force carries out extensive tests on the airframe and other parts of the aircraft to extend their service life and has had earlier experience in doing so," defence officials told Indian media.
"Service life extension would help the Indian Air Force to maintain the fleet of its mighty Su-30s around 2045-2050," they said.
As the IAF prepares for the future, these upgrades and life extensions of the Su-30 MKI fleet demonstrate India's dedication to maintaining a strong and technologically advanced air force, capable of defending its airspace and interests for decades to come.
