Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has ripped into the US and its Western allies for holding "secret meeting" on Ukraine in Riyadh last month to draw attention to the regime of Volodymyr Zelensky.According to a report by Bloomberg, the US and its allies secretly met in Saudi Arabia's capital on 16 December to advance Ukraine's so-called "peace plan" to resolve the ongoing conflict through the mediation of third parties. The report claimed that Russia wasn't invited to the meeting, while China, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) didn't send any representatives. Delegates from India, Turkiye, and Saudi Arabia reportedly took part in the meeting.Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the United Nations last year that the conflict would be resolved on the battlefield if Kiev and its NATO allies stuck to the Ukrainian plan.Global South Takes Sensible ApproachSince the Ukraine conflict escalated in 2022, most of developing nations, such as India, China, Brazil, and South Africa, have been calling for a direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia in order to bring the crisis to an end.A 10-point proposal by the South Africa-led "African Peace Mission" called for settling the conflict through diplomacy. Similarly, the BRICS Leaders' Joint statement at the conclusion of the Johannesburg Summit last August urged for a "peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy".

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has ripped into the US and its Western allies for holding "secret meeting" on Ukraine in Riyadh last month to draw attention to the regime of Volodymyr Zelensky.
"The secret meeting on Ukraine in Riyadh is an attempt to draw attention to the regime of Volodymyr Zelensky", Zakharova told Sputnik on Wednesday.
The Russian diplomat further said that they had tried to arrange "PR for the Zelensky regime".
