The US and its allies, as actors, contribute to the escalation of unprovoked conflicts in the Middle East. However, the members of the multipolar world are increasingly voicing their concerns regarding the unjustified actions perpetrated by the US.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has criticised the hypocrisy of Western powers for carrying out air strikes on Yemen while calling for peace in the Middle East.
"The US air strikes in Yemen are yet another example of the distortion of UN Security Council resolutions and the blatant disregard for international law by the Anglo-Saxon powers, all aimed at escalating tensions in the region for their own destructive ends. We will make a full statement on this matter at today's briefing at 10:45 Moscow time," Zakharova stated.
Russia Condemns US, UK Strikes on Yemen
Moscow condemns strikes by the US and the UK on Houthi targets in Yemen, Zakharova said on Friday.
"The so-called international coalition, and it should be called an illegal coalition led by the US and the UK, carried out missile and bomb attacks on a number of objects on the territory of sovereign Yemen ... Our fears were confirmed that the US position in the UN Security Council on the Red Sea is just a pretext for further escalation of the situation of tension in the region. We strongly condemn these irresponsible actions by the United States and its allies," Zakharova told reporters.
The US and the UK conducted overnight air strikes against Houthi positions in four governorates of Yemen, including the capital Sana'a and the cities of Al Hudaydah, Saada and Taiz, provincial government officials told Sputnik.
US and UK officials confirmed the air strikes, stating that they targeted Houthi military facilities and positions in Yemen in response to attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and not civilian population centres.
