IAF Chief VR Chaudhari announces significant indigenisation efforts and the discovery of a missing aircraft's wreckage in the Bay of Bengal.
Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari has revealed a significant leap in the Indian Air Force's (IAF) self-reliance initiative, with the indigenisation of more than 60,000 components in the last two to three years. Addressing the media at Bhonsala Military School in Nagpur, he emphasized the shift towards in-house maintenance, reducing dependency on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

The IAF's move towards indigenisation is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and self-sufficiency in maintaining its fleet. "We have opened our Base Repair Depots (BRDs) to industry collaboration, allowing them to participate in the activities across all Air Force units," the IAF chief said.

In a separate development, Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari shared the successful location of a missing AN-32 aircraft wreckage in the Bay of Bengal. The aircraft, with 29 personnel on board, had been missing for over seven-and-a-half years and was recently discovered at a depth of around 3.4 km.

"It was a challenging task, but the advancements in deep-sea exploration technology enabled us to find the aircraft on the seabed," Chaudhari said.

He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Ocean and Earth Sciences for their instrumental role in this significant find, which provides closure to the tragic incident.
