Last week, Mashkov had said that Putin's election campaign planned to collect 3 million signatures. The incumbent president is running as an independent candidate. According to the law, self-nominated candidates must submit at least 300,000 signatures to the Central Election Commission to register for the election. Co-chair of Putin's election campaign Maryana Lysenko earlier in the day announced that 315,000 signatures in his support had been submitted to the Central Election Commission. To date, 11 people have submitted their applications to participate in the Russian presidential election, which will take place from March 15-17. Three of them have been already registered as they were nominated by parliamentary parties and thus are not required to collect signatures.
