14:33 25.01.2024 (Updated: 14:40 25.01.2024) Deputy Minister Anatoly Bobrakov asserted the paramount importance of developing the Vladivostok-Chennai route for India with the potential to slash cargo transit time by 40% which emerges as a secure alternative to existing routes.

‘development of the Chennai-Vladivostok route is a priority for India,’ Deputy Minister for Development of Far East & Arctic Anatoly Bobrakov told media following the
Indo-Russian workshop on the Eastern Maritime Corridor hosted by Sarbananda Sonowal, Federal Shipping Minister of India.
“If today cargo through the Suez Canal takes 40 days to reach Russia, then through the eastern corridor this time will be reduced to 24 days, by 40%; the important aspect here is that [India] considers the eastern corridor as a safer alternative to the existing routes,” the minister explained.
India has also expressed interest interest in the Northern Sea Route, while its government says the route will reduce the delivery time of goods to Russia by 16 days.

“Together with the Indian authorities, we have launched an effective platform for business interaction in export areas. The Russian side will monitor the dynamics of negotiations between the companies of our countries regarding the extent to which the major interests of Indian entrepreneurs who import Russian goods are being met; after that, we will make appropriate decisions,” Bobrakov said, adding that several Indian representatives have already asked whether a similar seminar would be held in Russia. “We will consider [this idea],” he commented.
