Frequent leopard sightings and attacks in residential areas and towns across India have sparked a heated debate about human-wildlife conflict and coexistence with animals.
A stray leopard was recently spotted prowling inside the famous Ghorakhal temple, in Nainital city in India's Uttarakhand state, triggering fear among locals and devotees on Monday morning.
The CCTV footage of the incident doing rounds on the internet showed a leopard entering the complex in the wee hours around 3:40 a.m. (IST) and walking around the Golu deity's temple.
In another camera, the leopard was spotted crossing an open area inside the temple complex looking for its prey.
The netizens took to social media to share their reaction to the spine-chilling viral video.
"Golju Devta located at Ghorakhal in Nainital is considered to be the god of justice, people apply in his court and offer bells to fulfill their wishes. This henchman might have come to the temple to file a petition, and that too in the dark of night," one user wrote in Hindi.
