In order to review and strengthen their defence engagements, India and Oman have discussed new areas of cooperation in the fields of training, joint exercises, information sharing, oceanography, and ship building, an official release said.The two countries also discussed issues of regional and international importance during their 12th Joint Military Cooperation Committee (JMCC) meeting held in Muscat. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) pertaining to the procurement of defence material and equipment which would provide a framework for a new area of defence collaboration was also signed during the meeting.Oman is one of India’s closest defence partners in the Gulf region, and cooperation in the field has emerged as a key pillar of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The meeting was co-chaired by India's Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and Secretary General of Oman's Ministry of Defence Mohammed Bin Nasser Bin Ali Al Zaabi, the release said.
